Third Party, Fire and Theft Car Insurance in brief*
If you have an accident which is your fault, you may be liable to pay for loss or damage you cause to other people’s property. Third Party, Fire and Theft car insurance provides up to $20 million cover for your legal liability to pay compensation for loss or damage to other people’s property caused by you or any other authorised driver of your car.
We understand how inconvenient it is to be without a car, especially if you need it for work or to transport your family. With Third Party, Fire and Theft cover, if your car is stolen our partners Allianz will arrange for you to be provided with a rental car (where available) for a maximum of 30 days at up to $100 per day, while you wait for your insurance claim to be settled.
It is quick and easy to get car insurance cover through 1300 Insurance. If you need same day cover, your insurance will start the moment your application is accepted.
*For the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of cover, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.
While your Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) covers you for any injuries to pedestrians or other drivers if you have an accident, it does not cover you for property damage. This means that if you have an accident which is your fault, you may have to pay for the repairs or replacement of other vehicles or any other damages you have caused, like buildings damage, equipment and personal possessions. Depending on the nature of the accident, the costs could run to thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Third Party, Fire & Theft car insurance can protect you for your legal liability (up to $20 million) if you have an accident. You also get up to $5,000 cover for your own vehicle if it is accidentally lost or damaged by fire or theft.
Third Party, Fire and Theft car insurance provides cover for your legal liability for loss or damage you cause to another person’s property if you have a car accident, as well as up to $5,000 cover for accidental loss or damage to your car that is caused by fire or theft. If your car is so badly damaged by fire or theft that it isn’t safe to drive, our partners Allianz will also pay the reasonable cost of towing to the nearest repairer or place of safety.
You’ll also be provided with a rental car for a maximum of 30 days at up to $100 per day if your car gets stolen. If a rental car cannot be arranged, our partner, Allianz, will pay a travel allowance of $50 per day for up to 30 days, so you won’t be stranded while you wait for your claim to be settled.

- Removal of basic excess for windscreen claims
- Protected No Claim Bonus
- Rental car following an accident (where available), up to $100 per day for up to 30 days, so you won’t be stuck without wheels
No two car insurance policies are the same so you need to compare the benefits carefully before you buy. Make sure you read the Product Disclosure Statement for each policy so you understand the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of the product.
Here are some of the great benefits of comprehensive car insurance available through 1300 Insurance:
- Guarantee on repairs for as long as you own the vehicle
- Flexibility to choose your repairer
- Option to protect your maximum No Claim Bonus
Car insurance premiums are calculated based on the level of 'risk' the insurance underwriters associate with you and your car. Simple things that differentiate you from someone else contribute to that assessment of 'risk'.
Key factors include:
- The make and model of the car
- The ages of everyone who drives the car
- Where the car is kept. Not all insurers treat each suburb the same, and parking in a garage rather than on the street can make a difference.
- Your driving history and the frequency of any claims you have made.
Market value is the cost to replace your vehicle with one of the same make, model, age and condition as your vehicle immediately prior to the loss or damage. It does not include any allowance for vehicle registration, CTP insurance, dealer warranty costs, stamp duty transfer, transfer costs or dealer delivery.
To get an idea of what your car may be worth you can search for the make and model on the Redbook website at www.redbook.com.au.
Agreed value is the amount the insurer agrees to insure your vehicle for, as shown on your policy schedule. Since the market value of your car will change over time, the agreed value could be higher or lower than the market value at the time you make a claim.
Please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for further information.
Comprehensive car insurance offers the highest level of cover. It provides cover for accidental loss of or damage to your car, as well as cover for your legal liability for loss or damage to other people's property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault.
Third party property damage is the most basic level of cover we offer. It provides cover for your legal liability for loss or damage to other people's cars or property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault. It also provides a limited amount of cover for your car if it is damaged in an accident with an uninsured vehicle, where you are not at fault.
With third party fire and theft cover you receive third party property damage cover, plus additional cover for your own car for up to $5,000 if it is stolen or damaged by fire.
For the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of cover, please refer to the Motor Insurance Product Disclosure Statement.
‘Personal effects’ are personal items which are designed to be worn or carried, but do not include items such as money, credit cards or personal music devices. With comprehensive car insurance you will receive up to $1000 cover for accidental damage to or theft of your personal effects resulting from a covered accident and up to $500 cover for your child seat or baby capsule following a covered accident.
Please refer to the Motor Insurance Product Disclosure Statement for the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of cover.
Any excess which you have to pay on a claim will be set out in your policy documents. Payment of an excess helps to reduce the number of small claims, so it’s one of the ways in which your insurer keeps the cost of your premium down. You may also be able to lower the cost of your comprehensive car insurance by choosing a higher basic excess2.
The excess for each claim is determined by adding your basic excess and any other excess amounts applicable, depending on the type of cover you have taken out and the nature of the claim you are making.
You won’t have to pay any excess if you are not at-fault in an accident with another vehicle, where you can provide your insurer with the name and contact details of the other driver, and the claimable loss is recoverable by your insurer.
A No Claim Bonus/Rating level rewards you with a discount on your comprehensive car insurance premium for claims not having been made under the policy.
Your NCB /Rating level is calculated based on the years of driving experience you and any other covered drivers have and the claims history of you and any other covered drivers. Each claim free year of driving entitles you to an increased NCB /Rating level up to a maximum amount.
This is because your insurer believes you are less likely to make a claim than a less experienced driver. If you have more than one driver named on your policy, you will receive the discount for the driver entitled to the lowest No Claims Bonus / Rating level.
You can protect your maximum No Claim Bonus/ Rating level by selecting the optional benefit of Protected No Claim Bonus. If you choose this option, your NCB entitlement will not be reduced for the first claim you make which is your fault or where the responsible party cannot be identified, within any one period of insurance.
If you do not select (or if you are not eligible for) the optional benefit of Protected No Claim Bonus and you have a claim which is your fault or the responsible party cannot be identified, you may lose up to 2 Rating levels for each claim, reducing your NCB entitlement the next time you renew your policy.
You will not lose any of your NCB following a windscreen or window glass damage only claim, or if the other vehicle in a collision is entirely at fault and you provide your insurer with the name and contact details of the responsible party.
Before you buy insurance, you have a legal duty of disclosure to tell your insurer anything you know and that a reasonable person in the circumstances would include in their answer to any questions asked that are relevant to the insurer’s decision to insure you and on what terms. The duty applies until your insurer agrees to insure you. If you don’t comply, your insurer may cancel your contract, reduce the amount it pays for a claim, or both. If your failure is fraudulent, your insurer can refuse a claim and treat the contract as if it never existed.
If you are having trouble applying for cover online please call 1300 467 872 with your quote reference number and a friendly consultant will try to assist you.
The call centre is open Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 9.00pm (EST) and Saturday 8.00am to 5.00pm (EST).
