Contents insurance through 1300 Insurance can protect your furniture and appliances, your clothes and personal effects and fittings like internal blinds and curtains, as well as outdoor possessions like your garden furniture, tools and barbeque up to the policy limit. All contents insurance policies even include up to $5,000 cover for the belongings of your guests or visitors.
Contents insurance through 1300 Insurance can protect your personal possessions from earthquakes, storms, lightning strikes, fires, explosions, theft or malicious acts. You may even be able to get cover for damage to your contents caused by leaks, or by something falling on your home like a tree or aerial. We offer a choice of contents insurance products to suit customers with different needs, from cover for specified insured events, to more comprehensive accidental loss or damage cover.

Vital Home Insurance can offer protection if someone breaks into your home and steals your items, or if your possessions are damaged by a disaster such as storm, fire or earthquake.
Classic Home Insurance includes everything from Vital Home Insurance, plus some higher policy limits and extra features including cover for fusion (motor burnout) of household electric motors up to 10 years old. It also offers twice the limit of legal liability compared to Vital Home Insurance.
This premium product provides cover for accidental loss or damage to your possessions (check the PDS for exclusions). It also offers twice the limit of legal liability compared to Vital Home Insurance.

Most home and contents insurance claims can be processed over the phone. In some more complicated cases your insurer may have to arrange for an assessor to visit your house to inspect the damage, and help you to coordinate repairs and replacements. Either way, your claim will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

If you choose Classic or Prestige Home Insurance there are also a number of options for you to choose from, which will change the premium you pay. These include cover for flood (which is subject to eligibility) and cover for portable contents that you carry with you away from home (available only with contents cover).

Home and contents insurance premiums are calculated on the basis of the risk you present to the insurer.
Risk is affected by a number of factors, such as:
- the location of your home
- the value of your home and possessions
- the material your home is constructed from
- the security devices you have installed to protect your home
- how your home is occupied
- the frequency of claims made by you or by previous owners of your home
Your premium will also depend on the amount you wish to insure, the level of cover you choose and any optional extras you add to your policy.
Before you buy home and/or contents insurance, you have a duty of disclosure to tell the insurer anything you know and that a reasonable person in the circumstances would include in their answer to any questions the insurer asks that are relevant to their decision to insure you and on what terms. This duty applies until the insurer agrees to insure you. If you don’t comply, the insurer may cancel your contract, reduce the amount payable for a claim, or both. If your failure is fraudulent, the insurer can refuse a claim and treat the contract as if it never existed.
