Contents Insurance

It's what you've put into your house that truly makes it your home: your furniture and personal possessions, your curtains and pictures - all the touches you've added to make it a safe and comfortable place to live. Our contents insurance protects the things you keep inside your home and garden against theft, fire or natural disasters*.

Contents insurance is for the moveable things, so if you own your house and you also want protection for the buildings and permanent fixtures, you'll need to take out a home insurance policy too.

Contents Insurance in brief*

Make your contents insurance even more affordable and save 10% on your premiums when you add a new policy to a car insurance policy.

We recognise that your yard is an important part of your home. That's why our contents insurance covers some of the possessions that you keep at your home, inside and out. We protect the obvious things like your furniture and appliances, your clothes and personal effects and fittings like internal blinds and curtains. And we also cover garden furniture, barbeques, portable pools and spas, gardening tools and even your pot plants.

With our contents insurance your personal possessions will be protected from natural disasters like an earthquake, storm or lightning strike; from accidents like a fire or explosion; and from theft or vandalism by other people. We even cover damage to your contents caused by leaks, or by something falling on your home like a tree, pole or aerial. Make sure you check the PDS for full details of exactly what's covered.

We want to give you total peace of mind, so we've made our contents insurance as comprehensive as possible. Some of the excellent built-in features include:

  • cover for accidental breakage of glass in your furniture, mirrors or pictures
  • replacement of your locks if your keys get stolen anywhere in Australia
  • insurance against misuse of your bank cards if they are stolen from your home

And if something happens to your home while you have visitors, we'll even pay for the repair or replacement of their stolen or damaged possessions.

To keep our insurance as affordable as possible we've made some of the great features optional, so you'll only pay for what you may need. For a small additional premium you can add extras like personal effects cover, which protects your possessions anywhere in Australia or overseas for up to 30 days, or accidental damage cover in case someone in your family breaks something precious.

All our home and contents insurance products have a 21 day cooling off period, so if you change your mind you can simply cancel your policy and get a full refund, provided you haven't made a claim.

*Terms and conditions apply to this policy. For full details of terms, conditions, exclusions and limits, see the PDS.

Whether or not you own your home, the possessions you keep inside it are precious and valuable. If your home was burgled or destroyed in a fire or other disaster you could lose everything you own. If you had to replace it all, from your furniture and appliances right down to your clothes and toiletries, could you do it without wiping out your savings? Contents insurance lets you protect the things you've worked for, without breaking the bank.

Policy Benefits

If something bad happens to your home we want you to get it back to looking good as new, so if your possessions are stolen or damaged we'll replace them new-for-old. We cover your furniture, decorations and belongings inside and outside your property against a wide range of accidents and disasters. The PDS gives you full details of how exactly much we'll pay for each type of item and the full list of events we cover.

When people visit your home you have a legal responsibility for their safety around your possessions. This means that you could be responsible for costs or damages if someone is hurt or killed, or their property is damaged, in an accident at your home – for example if someone was injured because a chair broke under them, you could be liable for their medical treatment. Our contents insurance policies come with $20m built-in protection against this liability.
Our contents insurance is flexible and affordable. You can tailor your cover to meet your needs and your budget: simply choose our standard low-cost insurance, with loads of built-in benefits, or add optional extras for even broader cover. And you can save even more money by buying a car insurance policy alongside your contents insurance.

If something does happen to your possessions you need an insurance company who will act fast to help you get your home back to normal. That's why we've made our claims process quick, efficient and hassle-free.

Our contents insurance transfers many of the risks home owners face from you to us.
