Photographers Insurance

Photographers Insurance

As a photographer, you would appreciate that your equipment can be a considerable investment that may not automatically be covered under your home insurance policy, or may not be adequately insured under your existing policy. Whether you're at home, in a studio, or out on the road, you need to take steps to help ensure that your precious cameras and equipment will be covered against the risk of loss, theft or damage to the extent possible.

That's why we've teamed up with Aon, one of Australia's leading insurance brokers, to let you know about a broad and cost competitive Photographers' Insurance package which has been designed to meet the common and varying risks faced by both amateur and professional photographers.

Photographers Insurance in brief*

Wherever you go in the world, photographers insurance can help protect your cameras, lenses and all your portable photography equipment (including items like laptops, computers, tablets and mobiles, but not drones or unmanned aerial vehicles) for accidental loss and damage. You can tailor your policy to your needs by choosing your level of cover – $5k, $10k, $15k or $20k.

There's always a risk that you could cause an accident in the course of your work, and if someone should get injured, or their property damaged, you may face the risk of a legal claim. When you buy your photographers insurance, you can choose to add $20m public liability insurance to help protect cover you against such claims if such a situation should arise. Separate charges apply; please contact us for further information.

For professional photographers who work from a studio, a broad insurance package is offered that helps cover your portable photography equipment and public liability, as well as all the non-portable contents of your office and studio against risks such as fire, storm and accidental damage – all in a single package. Separate charges apply; please contact us for further information.

It's very quick and easy to buy photographers insurance cover when you apply online. We will ask you to answer some simple questions about your needs to provide an on-the-spot quote, and if you qualify, you can buy cover instantly in just four steps.

The cost of your photographer’s insurance will depend on a number of factors, including:

  • The value of equipment you wish to insure
  • Which types of insurance you wish to take out
  • If you’re taking out studio insurance, your location and what types of security measures you have in place

Before you buy any type of insurance, you have a duty of disclosure to tell the insurer anything you know and that a reasonable person in the circumstances would include in their answer, to any questions the insurer asks that are relevant to their decision to insure you and on what terms.

This duty applies until the insurer agrees to insure you. If you don’t comply, the insurer may cancel your contract, reduce the amount payable for a claim, or both. If your failure is fraudulent, the insurer can refuse a claim and treat the contract as if it never existed.
